One Horned Rhinos


Popularly known as the Great Indian One Horned Rhinoceros is the largest of the three Asian rhinos and is the forth largest mammal of the world. Historically, the rhinos were distributed in the floodplain and forest tracts in Brahmaputra, Ganges and Indus river valley. Great one horn rhinos are usually solitary. It is mainly characterized by its single unique black horn. This beast is often described as being armour plated due to its large skin folds. Kaziranga is the home to world’s largest one horned rhinos. Two- third of the world’s one horned rhinos belong to this place. The biggest threat that greater one-horned rhinos face is human harassment / encroachment. For centuries rhino is being hunted for sports. It horn has greater demand in the market, which has medical significance.
